Silvio Daneo was born in Rivoli, Turin, Italy in 1941. He holds a degree in Accounting and a baccalaureate in Theology, as well as a Masters in Intercultural and Inter-religious Meditation from the Salesian Pontifical University (UPS) and the Academy of Humanistic and Social Sciences (ASUS) in Rome, Italy.
He has been part of the Focolare Movement since 1959, and was among those who founded the Focolare communities in North America (1962-1966) and Asia (1966-1995). Since the early 1970s, Silvio has been committed to inter-religious dialogue within the Focolare Movement, and since 1977, has been active in “Religions for Peace,” an international organization working for world peace. At present, Silvio is the Executive Director of Religions for Peace in Italy.
Silvio is also a volunteer of the Roman “Caritas” serving the main prison of Rome, providing assistance to the inmates. He also coordinates the collection of food for the needy in hundreds of supermarkets with the “Food Bank Association.” He is the Vice-President of “Together for a Healthier Heart,” an organization which promotes prevention, research and formation for the cure of heart diseases.
